Business process outsourcing and offshoring and the contact centre industry are experiencing considerable growth in South Africa. The country is positioned to capitalize on this opportunity mainly due to its English language proficiency, similar time zone with Europe, quality lifestyle, well developed transport network, and financial communication systems. The Free State is positioning itself as the country's preferred business destination for BPO & O and contact centre operations. Bloemfontein which is one of the main economic hubs within the province is also at the centre of Telkom's switching centre and sits on both national and international optical-fibre routes.
The Telkom network is able to support operations of any magnitude. Numerous call centres of varying capacities are already operating in Bloemfontein, taking advantage of the available infrastructure and talent pool, and more centers are expected to open. Given the number of specific competitive advantages it possesses in the business process services sector, South Africa has identified the sector as a priority job expansion area for the country. The Free State is seeking to attract a significant portion of the foreign direct investment coming into the country.
